Kirk Barber, MD, FRCPC, FCDA, FAAD

Dr. Barber obtained his MD from the University of Alberta and his Canadian Fellowship in Dermatology (FRCPC) after training in Internal Medicine at the University of Alberta and Dermatology at the University of Ottawa and Harvard Medical School. As the Chief Resident in Dermatology at Harvard Medical School he qualified as a Diplomate of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD). Dr. Barber is in private clinical practice and is a Clinical Professor in both the Departments of Medicine (Dermatology) and Community Health Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary. Dr. Barber has been the Principal Investigator in over 150 national and international clinical research trials. Dr. Barber served as the Chair of the Health Research Ethics Board of Alberta Clinical Trials Committee (a committee that reviews all human medical research conducted outside Alberta’s major universities) for 15 years resigning in 2015. Dr. Barber is the Editor-in-Chief of the indexed, peer reviewed journal of the Canadian Dermatology Association - the “Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery” and the on-line journal the “Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery Case Reports”. Dr. Barber is an active podcaster hosting JCMS Author Interviews twice monthly. Dr. Barber was President of the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) in 2003 and he has received the CDA’s Presidents Cup twice (1997, 2011) recognizing his outstanding and continuing contributions to the CDA.
